Environmental protection and concern can be defined as any activity to preserve or restore the quality of the environment through preventing the emission of pollutants or reducing the presence of polluting substances in environmental system.  It may consist of:

  • Changes in characteristics of goods and services
  • Changes in consumption patterns
  • Changes in production techniques
  • Treatment or disposal of residuals in separate environmental protection facilities
  • Recycling
  • Prevention of degradation of the landscape and ecosystems

The above concept is deeply embedded in Andromeda’s philosophy since its foundation twenty years ago and it has been continuously improved aiming to obtain one goal only:

ZERO accidents and ZERO spills.

Gaining experience every day in operating high specifications vessels Andromeda has always paid a lot of attention and effort towards environment protection and pollution preventions, through complying with environmental laws and regulations, investing in human resources, building double hull vessels and maintaining hull, machinery and equipment to the highest standards.

I.A.S uses special silicon paint for its vessels in order to improve propulsion efficiency and reduce fuel consumption and carbon emissions as well as any side effect to the marine environment.

Vessels waste is reduced to minimum through recycling packaging material and keeping on board any polluting residues discharging them ashore only to specific facilities.

The engine sludge if not burned by the vessels incinerator is always delivered ashore or via barge when terminal facilities to receive it are not available. Vessels performances are continuously monitored and compared in order to maximize efficiency and minimize consumption and emissions.

I.A.S.  was the first shipping company in France to obtain ISO 9002:94 and ISO 14001:96 simultaneously and presently one of the few shipping companies to be qualified with three ISO  certifications: ISO 9001: 2008; ISO 14001: 2004 and ISO 18001:2007 (OHSAS)
